Overview and Objectives

The idea of setting up of Industry Linked Centre of Excellence/Advanced Lab in Automation originated from the need to align the engineering education with the latest industry trends and practices, better vocational training/ interaction with industry, upgradation of tools, laboratories and faculty skills as well as the inclusion of latest engineering concepts into the academic curriculum structure.  Automation covers applications ranging from a household thermostat controlling a boiler, to a large industrial control system with tens of thousands of input measurements and output control signals. The benefit of automation includes labor savings, savings in electricity costs, savings in material costs, and improvements to quality, accuracy and precision.

Keeping in view the recent advances in automation and need for professionals to get training in such recent trends in automation, a Centre for Training and Research in Automation has been set up by the department in joint collaboration with the department of “Electronics and Communication Engineering” and department of “Mechanical Engineering” with the following objectives:

1. Bridge the gap between Industry needs and the available set ofskills through Industry oriented learning.
2. Enable SLIET, Longowal 3to improve the quality of technical education & training in the region.
3. Provide state-of-the-art tools to match industry standards.
4. Student Training on live projects from the Industry.
5. Availability of learning modules with learner centric study material.
6. Reduce investment of time, effort and money by the industry in the training of the students.
7. Improve student employability.
8. Improve industry competitiveness globally.
